When Nico Rosberg arrived in Shanghai for the Chinese Grand Prix, he had neither a pole position nor a race victory to his name. He leaves the city with both after a textbook weekend of excellence. His historic lights to flag victory, the first for a Mercedes-Benz works team since 1955, was a consummate performance that has shaken up an already unpredictable season. Rosberg shied away from the description of his pole lap as ‘perfect’, but that’s exactly what it was. His race was flawless too, even if his team couldn’t quite live up to his high standards. A botched pitstop cost Mercedes the chance of a 1-2 finish, after Michael Schumacher was forced out thanks to a missing wheel nut.
