STAR ATTRACTION in the British motor-racing calendar for May is the Silverstone round of the 1979 World Championship of Makes, this six-hour long British race sponsored by the Rivet Supply Company.

Several teams are using the Silverstone race as a shakedown for Le Mans including Porsche, with an Essex Petroleum-backed, long-tailed 936 for Redman/Mass, the interesting Japanese-built, DFV-powered Dome Zero R-L to be driven by Craft/Spice, De Cadenet in his own DFV-powered car, Bracey's Hesketh 308 and Robin Hamilton's Aston Martin V8 with no lesser name than Derek Bell down as main driver. A surprise late entry from Le Mans contenders is from Lancia, with a singleton Turbocharged Monte Carlo for Patrcse/Rohrl. Porsche 935 privateers include Schurti/Fitzpatrick, Ludwig and Wollek.
