Mike Harris was a national competitor whose short-lived Formula 1 career was driving an ex-Reg Parnell Cooper T53-Alfa Romeo. He had won the 1962 Rhodesian Championship before the Grand Prix circus arrived in the region at the end of the year.

He retired from Kyalami’s Rand GP and Westmead’s Natal GP before Christmas and entered the South African GP at the end of the month. 15th fastest during practice, Harris ran in the midfield before retiring from his only world championship appearance after 31 laps of the East London course.
He did not race in international competition again and later ran Alfa Romeo dealerships in Northern Rhodesia before retiring to Durban in South Africa.
