This Brazilian was a talented youngster whose European career was scuppered by a lack of finance. Successful in touring cars in his home country, Luiz-Pereira Bueno made a one-off appearance in the Formula 1 World Championship.

A race winner with a Merlyn in British Formula Ford during 1969, Bueno was unable to raise the funds to continue in Europe. Instead, he made his name in national racing and started a couple of races in the Torneio Formula 2 series at the end of 1971. Bueno recovered from illness to finish a distant fifth with a works March 712M-Cosworth in the final round at Córdoba.

Formula 1 with March and Surtees

His 1972 season began with his F1 debut in the inaugural Brazilian Grand Prix when a steady but unspectacular sixth for March. That was a non-title affair but it was a full world championship event in 1973. Bueno hired the third Surtees for his GP debut. He qualified the old Ford-powered TS9B at the back and finished 12th and last.

With his place in F1 record books, Bueno then enjoyed a successful saloon car career in Brazil before working in team management in the country. He died in 2011 after suffering from lung cancer.
