Kurt Rieder

16th July 1944 (Age 76)
Most recent race (in database):

This journeyman sports car driver also raced in the European Formula 2 Championship on one occasion.

Kurt Rieder had raced in endurance events and Formula 3 since 1969 with a Porsche and Brabham respectively. However, he was all-but-unknown when he used backing from Memphis cigarettes to rent Colin Vandervell’s regular March 732-BMW for the poorly supported 1973 Salzburgring F2 race. Only 13 cars arrived and the local man qualified the Brian Lewis-tended March in seventh before finishing in that position to claim the final championship point of the afternoon.

Hoped for sponsorship for the following F2 season failed to materialise and Rieder did not race in the series again. His last appearance in the World Championship of Makes was the 1975 Osterreichring 1000Kms.
