"Pocho" Bayardo raced in South America’s healthy Formule Libre scene during the 1950s. His Chevrolet V8-powered Maserati 4CLT/48 finished sixth in the 1952 Eva Perón Grand Prix and he did win local races in the car – most notably at Montevideo in 1956 and Interlagos a year later.

Although not well known outside South America, he made one attempt to race in Europe when entered for the 1959 French GP in Scuderia Centro Sud’s Maserati 250F. Unable to set a representative time, he failed to qualify and returned home with Formula 1 ambitions unfulfilled.

After his racing career was over, Bayardo ran three dealerships for General Motors in the Maldonado region of Uruguay. He also served on the board of two other local companies – a success in business and a sportsman on the track.
