Frank Funk built this half-mile dirt oval in an Indiana cornfield in 1914 and high banking was added to Funk’s Motor Speedway in 1929. The steepness of the clay banking was progressively increased until it was 45 degrees to maximise speed. Lloyd Moore won the only senior NASCAR race to be held at the renamed Winchester Speedway in 1950. Paved a year later with 37-degree banking, the self-styled “World’s Fastest 1/2 Mile” remains operational at the time of writing.
