After the success of Molson’s Toronto Champ Car race, the brewing giant sponsored a second street race in the vibrant city of Vancouver, British Colombia. The tight nine-turn circuit promoted close-contact racing and many resulting accidents. It was not popular with drivers, who complained about the lack of passing opportunities. A new layout around False Creek was introduced in 1998, using only the pit straight of the old layout. It remained as part of the Champ Car World Series until 2004. Al Unser jr was a four-time winner during the early years and Canadian Paul Tracy won three of the last five Champ Car events held. The final such race was held in 2004 and a much-anticipated Formula E race on a revised False Creek layout in 2022 did not take place.
