Vallelunga 1145 v2

Vallelunga

Originally a tiny dirt oval that held its first car race in November 1951, Vallelunga was paved in 1957 and extended with a loop through a newly blasted cutting in 1963.

Originally a tiny dirt oval that held its first car race in November 1951, Vallelunga was paved in 1957 and extended with a loop through a newly blasted cutting in 1963. It was further modernised eight years later when the direction of racing was converted to clockwise. The highlight was the Rome Grand Prix, which eventually became a Formula 2 and then Formula 3000 round. However, Vallelunga fell out of favour with the FIA and slipped from the F3000 calendar during the 1990s. It returned to the international scene with a round of the European Le Mans Series in 2001, but the race attracted a small field of cars and few spectators. The circuit was further extended in 2006 and held a round of the European Formula 3 Championship in 2013.
