Opened on May 18 1950 as a half-mile dirt oval, Oxford Plains Speedway had been shortened to 3/8 of a mile by the time NASCAR's senior series visited during the late-1960s. Its 14,000 capacity made Oxford Plains the largest sporting facility in Maine. Ownership changed in in 2012 and the direction of racing has recently been changed to anti-clockwise. The Oxford 250 for late model stock cars is the annual highlight today.
