This was a one-off event held in 100-degree heat in July 1984. Although the track surface disintegrated as the weekend progressed, the Grand Prix was an exciting affair, with Keke Rosberg eventually scoring his only win of the year. Nigel Mansell had qualified on pole position but ended the race in a state of collapse after trying to push his broken Lotus across the finish line. It was also the only race in which Osella scored points. A truncated new layout was used for a Trans-Am in 1988.
