Known as the “Monster Mile,” the 24 degree Dover International Speedway has been a fixture on the NASCAR circuit since Richard Petty won the first race in 1969. Champ Cars also raced here that year (with Art Pollard winning for Andy Granatelli), but it wasn’t until the birth of the Indy Racing League that open-wheelers returned in 1998 and 1999. The narrow exit from the corners often causes multi-car accidents, frequently at Turn 2. The circuit was repaved with concrete in 1995 and also features an active horse racetrack.
