Chicagoland was built at Joliet, Illinois to the southwest of downtown Chicago by the combined might of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the International Speedway Corporation. In addition to the tri-oval, it features a drag strip and a dirt oval, and every need of the 75,000 spectators is catered to. The inaugural 2001 season saw races for both NASCAR and IndyCar championships with the former now the highest profile event each September. The turns are banked at 18 degrees, with 11 degrees in the front stretch.
