Brooklyn

Holding a race in New York City has long been an unfulfilled goal for major racing series.

Holding a race in New York City has long been an unfulfilled goal for major racing series. There have been numerous proposals to hold a Formula 1 Grand Prix within the city limits and Donald Trump’s promise in March 1999 to build the Trump Superspeedway to host NASCAR similarly did not materialise. Formula E was the first international championship to achieve that aim when the inaugural New York ePrix was held in the area around Brooklyn’s Atlantic Basin cruise terminal in July 2017, with the Statue of Liberty and lower Manhattan as a backdrop. Originally 1.214 miles in length, a new complex at the north-eastern end of the course added another quarter of a mile and the pits were moved to Bowne Street for the 2019 race.
