Two years after the Circuit Raymond Sommer closed in 1960, the Grand Prix d'Albi was revived at an airfield on the western outskirts of town. Flat and featureless in comparison with the previous circuit, initial events were for Formula Junior and its replacement F3. Rumours that the 1970 French Grand Prix would be held at Albi proved ill-founded and a European Formula 2 race was the headline event during the early 1970s. The circuit then turned to national series for the GP, although it lost its annual single-seater highlight when the French and German F3 series amalgamated to form the F3 Euroseries in 2003. The French GT Championship and a historic GP have since provided Albi’s leading attractions.
